As Direcotr of Employee Development for Sycamore Community Schools (6,300 kids, 455 teachers) we have offered over 1,680 hours of inservice training for teachers since 1991. Over 650 hours of this has been in the area of technology. A recent 2 day project based technology workshop that promtoes a new role for the teacher has recieved much attention and publicity by BASA, NSBA and other Ohio organizations and school districts. The workshop model the strategy of teacher as a navigator of learning, providing meaningful projects for students and then allowing them to use technology tools to develop a final presentation of their learning in Hyperstudio.

I would love to receive E mail regarding technology use plans from mid size rural elementary schools. I am a tech mentor in addition to teaching 4th grade full time. It is discouraging to see all the outstanding plans listing full time tech coordinators, etc. We have 513 mostly low income students in grades K-6 in 21 classrooms. Each room has a Mac 520/CD or newer and a TV/VCR. The technology we have is well used and we have a tech plan, but it needs updating for application for CA SB 1510 grant $. Advice or plans from successful schools is welcome.

I am the computer specialist for a five campus special education school for multiply handicapped and retarded students located in the NYC Metro area. Our students are largely bilingual (Yiddish, Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, Spanish and Creole). Four of our sites are preschools and the other is for school aged kids. Hello, My name is Chuck Adams and I am a Master's Degree Candidate in the Department of Instructional Technology and Telecommunications at Western Illinois University. I am presently involved in research for my thesis. The subject I chose has to do with the implementation process of educational technology. Specifically, the successes and impediments faced by the district-level "implementers." The challenge is to locate districts and/or schools that have been through the process and found impediments along the way that were unaccounted for in the planning stages. They also need to be willing to discuss what measures they (the policy makers) enacted to sucessfully overcome the impediments. Truman College (one of the City Colleges of Chicago) is getting lots of new hardware. How do we get funding for staffing these shiny new labs? Staffing is a responsibility of the local college, but I don't see how all these new jobs can come out of our local budget. Any ideas?.

This site was definitely of great help to us during our strategic planning on integrating technology into the curriculum. We are very fortunate to have a lot of "stuff" including 3-5 computers per classroom as well as a computer lab, scanner, digital cameras etc. Now we need to learn to intergrate it all.

The Little Rock School District has initiated a work group to write a technology plan. By technology plan I mean a plan to get technology and the internet into all 50 schools . I am resource for the work group. They have asked me to get copies of exemplary technology plans from other districts our size (25,000 students). The chair of the work group wants me to find some technology plans from Texas and Florida. The Little Rock School District (LRSD) is under a federal deseg court order. This is making it imperative that the eight work groups finish their tasks quickly. There seems to be no time to reinvent the wheel. Our teachers and students needed internet access yesterday. The chair of the committee, Mrs. Lucy Lyons, has offered to pay for long distance phone and mailing expenses for the material that we need. Please help us to help the students? The clock is ticking! Hi, everybody. I am new on the net and would like to hear from veterans about how to use information technolgy in education.

Technology is the means to an end; the end being a better educational for children now and the future. Thoughtful. In the USA, our culture has been successful in developing many quick fix, ease of use, massively productive technologies and idealogies. In and of itself, this is not a bad thing, but a mind set has developed over the years because of our success. This mind set can blind us to the fact that many problems cannot be magically resolved by the application of technology or quick fix planning. Technology should enhance, amplify and optimize a carefully thoughtout plan. It seems to me that in the last fifty years, more has been discovered about how Man learns than in all the previous periods of time before. Technology should be the means of capitializing on that knowledge and bringing about a new capcity and richness for educational opportunities.

In our technology plan I am looking at how schools (grades k-5) integrate technology on a daily basis in the classroom. For example using a word processor, database, spreadsheet and graphic programs.

This ssite should prove to be a fantastic scource of information; from what we can gleen and what we can provide. I teach 5th grade at Earlimart Middle School in Earlimart, CA. We have just obtained over 1,800 Toshiba Satellite 205 laptops for each of our students kindergarten through 8th grade)and 50 Tosshiba Satellite Pro 430's for the teachers. All faculty and staff were encourage to avail themselves of these computer--classroom aides, secretaries, kitchen staff, bus drivers, maintance, etc. To our knowledge no other school district has put computers into the hands of every student. Over half of the families have agreed to purchase their students computer. This means that farmworkers children are taking home their computers and showing and teaching their parents about computeers. Please wish us luck and send us your prayers. I/We will be back sharing info and asking advice.
