As the Curriculum Project Manager at the Research and Curriculum Unit for Workforce Development, Vocational and Technical Education in Starkville, Mississippi, I have extensive experience in technology and education. In my current position, I manage the development of secondary and postsecondary curriculafor various vocational programs in Mississippi. My experience began as an 8th grade Computer Discovery teacher where I discovered the joy of sharing with colleagues the empowerment of technology applications. For five years now I have been involved in training educators for professional development in technology.
I completed both my B.S. degree in Elementary Education and my M.S. degree in Instructional Technology at Mississippi State University. I am currently working toward a doctoral degree in Instructional Systems and Workforce Development with a minor in Community College Leadership. I am an active member of MECA, the National Business Education Association, and Phi Delta Kappa International.
I have worked to enhance my personal development by working on an advanced degree in technology and leadership education. I expect to complete a doctorate in education degree in the spring of 2008. Additionally, I have attended numerous state and national conferences. I have been a very active member in the Mississippi Educational Computing Association (MECA) and was elected by Mississippi educators to serve on the MECA Executive Board.
I also have the honor of serving as a co-advisor to the Lambda Sigma honor society. Lambda Sigma Society is a national honor society for second year men and women dedicated to the purpose of fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and the spirit of service among college students, and to promoting the interests of the college or university in every possible way. Membership in Lambda Sigma is not only recognition for accomplishment, but also a challenge to serve throughout student’s college career and as an alumnus. Lambda Sigma students offers opportunities for personal growth, leadership experience, a sense of involvement in the Starkville community and Mississippi State University.
As an energizing and innovative presenter, I enjoy training the most when I see the proverbial light bulb come on in teachers’ eyes! I strive to accomplish a comfortable atmosphere in the learning environment while training educators to effectively integrate technology and best teaching practices into their classrooms. I enjoy facilitating training for teachers because I genuinely care about professional development for educators and the impact it can have on students. I especially love working with adult learners. I believe when educators are involved in high quality professional learning, they respond with action to improve their practice in the classroom.
My experience as a teacher educator includes the following workshops: Blackboard ®, Microsoft ® Office Products, Web Design, Electronic Assessment, RCU Online Learning Series, Inspiration! ® JavaScript, and Integrating Teacher Web Pages into Curriculum. I have presented for numerous professional groups and organizations.
I am a native of Meridian, Mississippi. My husband and I reside in Starkville, Mississippi. We are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, McKinley (Mac) and Taylor Shane Parker.
