There is some very good information on Technology Audits at:
http://axis.epsb.edmonton.ab.ca/dtp/standards/activities.htm.
Within this document the following explanation of what a technology audit is and what it includes is as follows:
The term "technology audit" is used to describe
an assessment or evaluation of the current situation or state of technology
in a school. It is not an "audit" in the way that The Internal Revenue
might examine your tax return, for example, but consists of processes and
information to evaluate the schools status with respect to technology from
several perspectives:
Hardware/equipment - the computers and devices in the school
Software - the computer applications and systems in use
User access - the people in the school who have access to which computers and to what information
Use of technology - how technology is being used to enhance learning and to support school operations
Staff skills - the readiness and skills of staff
to make effective use of technology
Audits can be done by staff within the school or with the assistance of staff in Consulting Services, Information Technology Support Services and Facilities Services.
Another document located at http://www.reuters.com/rbb/research/goodinfo/chapter3.htm
includes a "Technology Audit Checklist" which
lists the following:
Technology audit checklist
What technologies are in place?
Which of these are stand alone and which are
integrated?
Could any cost or efficiency benefits be obtained
by integrating stand alone systems?
Could any archaic IT or even paper based information
systems be improved by technological changes?
Would the organization benefit from a system
that enables people to extract knowledge from their corporate data, such
as a data warehouse?
Are individuals hampered in their search for
information by a slow or unsatisfactory network? Would this situation be
alleviated by a systems upgrade?
Are employees properly trained to use systems
correctly and efficiently?
Could playback times be calculated for desired
technology upgrades?
There is also a technology audit report that was completed on March 23, 1999 for the Acalances Union High School District by Robert Nolan, Ph.D. and Dennis Pasadis. The report is located at:
